New reports have emerged confirming discrete Russian oil shipments to Morocco despite ongoing European sanctions, reveals Maghrebi Week on 6th April.

Over the past few years, Morocco has become the first North African importer of Russian fuel, benefiting from attractive prices as Russia continues to suffer from economic sanctions following the war in Ukraine.

The shipments rely on a complex network aiming at obscuring their origin and destinations, using intermediary societies based in Dubai and Cyprus. The scheme involves a Geneva-based trader and major Moroccan banks, as well as a “ghost fleet” of vessels circulating without adequate insurance and documents.
