Libya emerges as launch point in Russian tanker attack
Libya has been drawn more directly into the Russia-Ukraine war after officials said Ukrainian operatives launched a drone strike on the Russian tanker Arctic Metagaz from western Libya, as reported by Libya Gazette on April 13th.
The tanker was badly damaged near Maltese waters in early March, and two Libyan officials claimed the attack was launched from a military site in Tripoli by Ukrainian drone specialists operating in western Libya.
The allegation suggests Libya is no longer only exposed to the spillover of foreign conflict, but is increasingly being used as a territory from which outside powers project military force into the Mediterranean.
