Iranian woman in US arrested for arms sales to Sudan
Shamim Mafi, an Iranian citizen who became a permanent US resident in 2016, was arrested at Los Angeles airport on the 19th April for allegedly selling Iranian-made arms to Sudan, according to BBC news.
The sales, including drones, were allegedly to Sudan’s defence ministry. Drone attacks have become commonplace during Sudan’s brutal civil war.
Mafi allegedly broke US sanctions against Iran, which prohibit US persons from dealing in Iranian goods or services without authorisation. If found guilty, she could face up to 20 years in prison.
