Libya: military exercise 2026 begins with US and Italy alliances
Following the recent agreement between Libya’s two power centres on a shared development and spending plan, military cooperation has now emerged through AFRICOM-led exercises.
According to the Libya Gazette on April 20th, senior officials from Libya, Italy, and the United States issued a joint statement announcing the launch of the “Flintlock 2026” military exercise in Libya.
However, US engagement—much like Italy’s—extends beyond military cooperation. Both nations are currently working on multiple fronts, primarily to secure a prominent position in exploiting Libya’s vast oil and gas reserves.
