Morocco’s economic success highlights widening prosperity gaps
Morocco’s recent economic successes and steady growth hide widening inequalities and popular frustration, 8 months after the Gen Z 212 protests, according to Maghrebi Week on 4th May.
While Morocco is developing major collaborations and new economic projects, youth unemployment has continued to increase and the gaps between rich and poor are growing, in a general climate of dissatisfaction.
Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch has already announced he won’t be standing at the next elections in late 2026, but his government will leave a legacy of repression towards the youth and democratic decline on key issues such as press freedom and corruption.
