A delegation of Algerian executives pitched for an increase in bilateral investment at the “SelectUSA” Summit in Maryland on the 5th of May, Algiers-friendly AL24 News reports. The group sat down with the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau to discuss how American firms might fit into Algeria’s shifting economic landscape. The meeting, organised by the Algerian Council for Economic Renewal (CREA), served as a platform for its president, Kamel Moula, to highlight specific sectors ready for foreign entry.

The talks included representation from both sides, with Algeria’s Ambassador Sabri Boukadoum and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Marc Shapiro in attendance. Landau reportedly noted the impressive scale of the Algerian delegation, which stood out among the international attendees at the National Harbour event. He cited his recent discussions with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in Algiers as a basis for why the two countries should do more business together.

For the Algerian side, the goal was to move the conversation beyond old energy models. The delegation pointed to the country’s updated legal codes as the source and a primary reason for American companies to take a second look at mining and pharmaceutical raw materials. They also identified agriculture and advanced tech as areas where U.S. expertise could find a profitable foothold. Rather than just selling products, the Algerian representatives urged American firms to get involved in the major structural and infrastructure projects currently being rolled out across the country.

The outreach continued on the 6th of May as the delegation moved their focus to state-level partnerships. They met with Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt to compare notes on Oklahoma’s industrial strengths and Algeria’s current needs. The conversation focused on practical ways to connect Algerian companies directly with businesses in Oklahoma, moving the summit’s broad goals into specific, regional opportunities.
