Libya’s ports face international investigation after cocaine seizure
Libya has opened an urgent investigation into a major cocaine shipment reportedly bound for one of its ports after Spanish authorities intercepted a vessel in the Atlantic, as reported by Libya Gazette on May 11th.
The shipment, estimated at between 30 and 45 tonnes of cocaine, was seized off the Canary Islands, with Dbeibah instructing the Foreign Ministry, Customs Authority, Interpol and Libya’s embassy in Madrid to coordinate with Spanish authorities and follow the investigation.
The vessel’s reported Libyan destination has raised questions over whether Libya was intended as a final destination, a declared cover route or a transhipment point within a wider narcotics corridor linking West Africa, North Africa and Europe.
