Libya’s press freedom crisis deepens amid UN warning
May 3 marked World Press Freedom Day. In Libya, this freedom is not guaranteed, nor are freedom of speech and, perhaps, even freedom of thought.
According to Libya Gazette on 11 May, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), on 3 May, has warned of the worsening climate for freedom of expression in the country. The UN warning reflects broader
concerns documented by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), which describes Libya as one of the most dangerous countries in the region for journalists.
