Libya’s National Oil Corporation has announced that it has regained full control of the Ras Lanuf Refinery after reaching a final agreement with Emirati-linked partner Trasta Company, ending more than a decade of legal and arbitration disputes over one of the country’s most strategic energy assets, according to the Libya Gazette on May 18th.

The agreement transfers full ownership of the Libyan Emirati Refinery Company back to Libya, with officials describing the deal as a major step toward restoring sovereignty over the country’s oil sector and revitalising the Ras Lanuf complex as a leading refining and petrochemical hub.

The development comes amid wider scrutiny surrounding foreign influence and strategic control in eastern Libya, particularly in areas aligned with military commander Khalifa Haftar, where regional political and commercial interests remain closely intertwined.
