EU and China back Libya’s unity under UN track
The European Union and China reaffirmed support for a united, sovereign and stable Libya after EU Ambassador Nicola Orlando met China’s newly appointed ambassador to Libya, as reported by Libya Gazette on May 25th.
Both sides backed UNSMIL and a political process based on consensus among Libyans as the meeting places the EU and China inside the same UN backed diplomatic framework, despite their different interests in Libya.
European governance and security priorities and China’s economic ambitions both depend on a more predictable Libyan political order able to reduce institutional division and insecurity.
