Libya and EU migration control in the central Mediterranean
Libyan authorities intercepted dozens of migrants off the coast of Tobruk this week, once again placing Libya at the centre of Europe’s migration management system in the central Mediterranean.
According to Libya Gazette on 1 June, over the past decade, cooperation between European actors and Libyan authorities has intensified through funding agreements, security coordination, training programs, and maritime support aimed at limiting departures toward Europe.

European governments continue to deepen cooperation with Libya precisely as the EU prepares to implement its new Pact on Migration and Asylum.
