Morocco and Canada cooperate to improve police forces

Plans to strengthen police services are anticipated between both Canada and Morocco as their bilateral ties have warmed significantly over recent months. According to The Arab Weekly plus agencies on 8th June, discussions have been forming around the agenda.

In April, Canada formally recognised Morocco’s autonomy plan as the strongest initiative towards resolving the long-standing Western Sahara territorial dispute. Sprouting from this bilateral foundation is collaboration between both nations to enhance their police forces.

Bilateral cooperation has improved across sectors. Alongside this, Canada called Morocco’s autonomy aspirations as “serious and credible”, as it proposes a peaceful solution to the Western Sahara dispute.

During a telephone conversation with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Indira Anand and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, the former announced Canada’s support for on the Morocco’s plan. This position was later declared in a statement by Canada’s foreign ministry. Because of Canada’s clear verdict, it had taken note of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, which was adopted on October 31st 2025 and has been since endorsed by 130 nations.

Closer security ties are expected between Ottawa and Rabat. Both countries are facing similar problems such as terrorism, organised crime and trafficking. The main ambition between them is to increase partnerships and alliances, to tackle serious and volatile global security threats. 

Analysts anticipate that the upcoming changes will provide numerous benefits. Several upcoming practical cooperation projects between the two nations include security, training, institutional changes and improving common interests. 

Experts suggest that the strengthening partnership could enable a long-lasting connection. This is expected to aid crucial sectors and public services. Areas that will benefit are policing, justice systems and intelligence. As a result of this, it will mitigate alarming security threats and bring down crime rates. Morocco and Canada expect to further expand their bilateral cooperation into other sectors.
