Lebanon ‘not informed’ on details of final Iran-US deal

Lebanon has not been informed on details of an agreement between the United States and Iran to end the Middle East war on all fronts including Lebanon, reported Al Asharq Awsat on June 15th. 

The final deal to end the US-Israeli war on Iran was announced on June 14th, however, an official stated Lebanon was not provided important information regarding the details of the deal.

An anonymous source stated directly that “Lebanon was not informed of the terms of the agreement or the time of the ceasefire.”  

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported intermittent artillery shelling in the country’s south, on June 14th. Despite the shelling, no airstrikes were recorded showing a decline in violence. 

Few details have been made public about the agreement that was announced on June 14th. 

Nabih Berri, the Lebanese parliament speaker, and ally of Hezbollah who acts as an intermediary between the group and the United States, praised the deal and thanked the US and Tehran for their “insistence on including… an essential and binding clause on halting the Israeli aggression on all of Lebanon.” 

Hezbollah, has not yet commented on the deal, however there have not been fresh attacks on Israeli targets claimed by the group. 

Israel and Hezbollah have been at war since March 2nd after the Iran backed group fired rockets at Israel to avenge the killing of Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, which took place days earlier as a result of US-Israeli strikes. 

Israel responded with multiple airstrikes and a ground invasion. Previous ceasefire announcements all failed to stop the fighting between Hezbollah and Israel. 

Negotiations for the final deal will take place over the span of 60 days, and Iran’s deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced the “permanent and immediate end to the war has been declared on all fronts, including Lebanon,” this includes all military operations alongside the end of the US naval blockade. However, he noted that Iran would take its own measures if any breaches are seen from the other side.
