Air Algerie inaugurates new flightpath to Gabon
Air Algérie inaugurated its new flightpath on the 16th of June, connecting Algiers to Libreville, Gabon. According to government-friendly L’expressDZ, the new aerial line connects Algeria to Gabon with a layover at Douala, Cameroon.
The first flight took off at the international airport of Houari-Boumediene of Algiers, with an inaugural ceremony taking place with multiple guests. The Algerian secretary of the Home Office and transport, Abdelghani Dridi, was present, as well as the ambassador of Gabon in Algeria, Marie Rosine Mimi Itsana, and the international director of Air Algérie.
Air Algérie communicated through an official statement that the opening of this new flightpath demonstrates the elaboration of a national strategy of aerial development. The company further states that the goal is to enhance the different focuses of the government, whether it be economic presence or mobility on the African continent.
The same statement further explained that this new destination was bound to reinforce international economic and diplomatic ties with African countries, and particularly Gabon. It aims at increasing connectivity and cooperation on a continental scale. According to the director of the commercial division of Air Algérie, these new efforts are essential to facilitate exchanges, cultural and economic. He also underlined that the program would help modernise and reinforce Air Algerie’s air fleet.
The Algerian airline has stated multiple times that it was determined to develop its capacities and reach, offering the best quality service to its clients.
This new flightpath can be situated within a broader effort by Algerian authorities to increase connectivity in Africa. The current Trans-Saharan highway project is destined to fully reach Lagos from Algiers, while going through many Sahel countries.
Algerian companies specialising in public works will begin, in the coming days, the construction of the two remaining sections of the Trans-Saharan Road on Chadian territory. These new projects take place in a true ambition for Algiers to establish itself as a regional influence in Maghreb, Sahel and eventually Africa.
