Libya unveils plan to tackle housing shortage

Libya is preparing a new housing strategy to address an estimated shortage of 800,000 homes by expanding cooperation between the government, banks and the private sector, as reported by the Libya Gazette on July 13th.

Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah said the plan would see the state provide land and infrastructure, banks offer long-term financing and private developers lead construction, with around 150,000 unfinished housing units set to be completed during the first phase.

The proposed programme aims to make home ownership more accessible through long-term mortgages while reducing reliance on direct state funding to help address one of Libya’s most significant economic and social challenges.
