Mali’s security situation has deteriorated further amid reports that Tuareg separatist rebels shot down a Russian helicopter, as reported by Maghrebi Week on July 13th.

Footage released by the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) spokesperson Mohamed Elmaouloud Ramadane appeared to show rebels shooting down a Russian Africa Corps-owned Mi-24 helicopter in the northern Kidal region’s Tabrichat on July 5th.

On July 4th, the FLA and the al-Qaeda-affiliated JNIM launched renewed attacks against military positions in at least seven locations across the country, including Molodo, Sandaré, Niono, Nioro du Sahel, Diboli, Gogui and Kayes.
