Morocco: Ten arrested over thwarted terror plots

Moroccan authorities arrested 10 suspects on July 6^th after the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), acting on intelligence from the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), said it had thwarted advanced terror plots linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) affiliate in the Sahel, according to the Libya Gazette on July 13^th.

The suspects were detained in coordinated raids across several cities. The BCIJ confirmed that one had a previous conviction for terrorism charges.

Searches uncovered bladed weapons, extremist material, military uniforms, digital media pledging allegiance to ISIS, and bomb-making components, including butane gas cylinders, pressure cookers, nails and chemicals. Investigators also seized a modified 4×4 vehicle that they said was intended for use in a suicide bombing or vehicle-ramming attack.

The suspects remain in custody, while one minor remains under judicial supervision as investigations continue into the group’s alleged links to ISIS in the Sahel.
