The Maghreb and migration: a European issue?

What can be said of the current handling of the migration crisis in the Maghreb? According to Maghrebi Week, the treatment of migrants varies across the Maghreb. While some countries pose greater risks than others, an analysis of the four Maghreb states shows a violent story lived by migrants attempting to migrate. Libya and Tunisia’s engagement in violent and abusive practices has led to a growing amount of human trafficking, shifting into an organised system. Morocco and Algeria see less organised crime and trafficking, but are experiencing, as a result, a rise in the number of migrants choosing the Western Maghreb countries to flee violence in the neighbouring states. 

Above is the European Union, which passes various agreements with all states in order to outsource its border. By funding Libyan authorities, knowingly of the violent treatment, the European Union enables trafficking, leading to an only growing humanitarian crisis.
