Libya and Japan discuss investment opportunity and cooperation
During a meeting with Japanese Minister of Economy and Fiscal Policy Shigeru Kitagi, a delegation from the Government of National Unity discussed ways to strengthen the economic partnership between Libya and Japan, as reported by the Libya Gazette July 13th.
The meeting focused on expanding cooperation in the oil and gas, energy, infrastructure and investment sectors, as part of the delegation’s official visit to Tokyo. The delegation, which includes both the Minister of Oil and Gas Khalifa Abdulssadiq and Minister of Economy and Trade Suhail Abu Shiha, stressed that the government is keen to provide an attractive investment environment that will contribute to the transfer of technology and expertise while promoting common interests shared between both countries. Additional meetings were held by the delegation with a wide range of financial institutions and dominant Japanese companies to discuss opportunities in the fields of energy, economic development, and most predominantly the ways in which the two countries will be able to promote and support the expansion of economic partnership.
Recently, Libya held meetings with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi and Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha, where Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah placed investment and economic cooperation at the centre of Libya’s regional diplomacy. Libyan officials increasingly view foreign investment not only as an engine for economic growth but also as a means of supporting political stability.
