Air Algerie inaugurated its new route from Oran to Djerba, Tunisia, on August 1. According to Oberv’Algerie, this new route will allow people from western Algeria to access the popular Tunisian tourist destination directly without flying through Algiers.

The first flight landed at Djerba-Zarzis Airport at 1:12 a.m., inaugurating a new weekly service connecting the two cities, with the next flight scheduled for August 9. This new route responds to strong demand from Algerian tourists who spend their holidays in Tunisia, particularly in Djerba, a major North African seaside destination and a UNESCO World Heritage-listed island off the southeastern coast of Tunisia, known for its white-sand Mediterranean beaches and rich multicultural history.

In addition to the new route to Djerba, Air Algerie also operates flights between Algiers and several Tunisian destinations during the summer season. The airline increases its services to destinations such as Monastir until October 9.

Air Algerie has also announced new attractive fares on its Algiers-Istanbul route, with reduced prices available from August 2 to 3.

These new fares and routes come at a time when Air Algerie, along with many other airlines, is looking to expand its network and capacity. New routes to destinations such as Gabon and Angola can be seen as part of a broader effort by the Algerian authorities to increase connectivity across Africa. Investments in several African countries, particularly through power plants, together with increased air connectivity, reflect Algeria’s growing ambition to become a key player in African affairs.

The resumption of the Algiers-Moscow route on August 3 has further reinforced this ambition. Beyond the Russian route, the national carrier is preparing a broader expansion of its international network for the upcoming winter season, which begins in late October. The plan includes adding five new destinations: Brazzaville in the Republic of the Congo, Conakry in Guinea, Lagos in Nigeria, Tripoli in Libya, and Kuwait City in Kuwait.
