Spain: Far-right figure strikes nazi salute at Morocco embassy
A far-right figure with connections to Spain’s neo-Nazi movement has been captured giving a Nazi salute outside the Moroccan embassy in Madrid, reports Qatari-friendly The New Arab on August 4.
This comes after the activist, Isabel Medina Peralta, had her one-year prison sentence upheld on August 3 2026 for hate speech against Moroccan and Muslim immigrants.
Peralta performed the gesture during a protest linked to the recent migration crisis in Ceuta, the Spanish enclave, where over 70,000 people crossed from Morocco in late July, according to Reuters. This event sparked a political controversy and a surge of anti-migrant rhetoric from Spain’s far right.
According to El País, Peralta, who helped found the now-dissolved neo-Nazi group NS Bastión Frontal, was initially convicted in April 2025 by Madrid’s Provincial Court for inciting discrimination and hatred. This followed a 2021 rally outside the Moroccan embassy, where she called for violence against Moroccan and Muslim migrants.
The court sentenced her to one year in prison and a fine for speech aimed at insulting Moroccan immigrants and stirring hostility.
On 31 July, the Madrid High Court of Justice confirmed her conviction by rejecting her appeal and upholding the full sentence. They also imposed additional penalties, such as a ban on holding public office during the sentence and the removal of online content related to the case.
The case ties back to the 2021 protest following tensions over Ceuta migrations, where Peralta openly expressed racist and violent slogans. The court determined that her remarks were not a valid critique of government migration policy but instead encouraged hostility and discrimination against a protected group.
Bastión Frontal has historically been linked to neo-Nazi and neo-fascist beliefs, as well as to street violence. Established in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, the group presented itself as a youth organisation for those aged 15 to 25. According to El Salto diario, they have encouraged the targeting of migrant minors, which frequently led to confrontations with authorities.
According to PolíticaElectoral, around 2024 Peralta became involved in Núcleo Nacional, an ultranationalist organisation that, in 2026, registered as the political party Noviembre Nacional, which has made its voice heard in Spain’s public debate through incidents involving racist and anti-immigrant messages.
This latest development reflects the normalisation of far-right ideology in Spanish politics.
Vox, a far-right party known for its anti-immigration stance, officially called for the border to be closed, the army to be deployed, and mass deportations.
In response to the Ceuta crisis, El País reported that Vox’s national spokeswoman, Isabel Pérez Moñino, argued that these “hordes of illegal immigrants” were “men of military age.”
According to another El País article, People’s Party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo said the crisis is a “premeditated occupation” of which La Moncloa was aware, and which has blamed the Executive for an “invaded Spain” through the massive regularisation of irregular immigrants.
Ongoing turmoil over migration has continued to plague the Sánchez government. As tensions rise, so does the favour of the far-right.
