France targets DZ Mafia in international crackdown

French law enforcement launched Operation Octopus to dismantle the DZ Mafia, a violent Marseille-based drug cartel notorious for bloody turf wars and cross-border crimes, as reported by Maghrebi Week on August 10th. 

The organised crime network is also renowned for money laundering, contract killings and cross-border violence.

A breakthrough recently occurred when co-founder Mehdi Laribi, a dual French and Algerian citizen, was arrested in Algeria following restored diplomatic and judicial cooperation between French and Algerian authorities.
