Libyan PM speaks out on drone explosion at oil refinery
Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah stressed that the targeting of oil and industrial facilities with drones represents a serious crime and an escalation that threatens the people and security of Libya, as reported by LY Witness on August 11th.
Dbeibah said that the targeting of Libyan critical infrastructure has crossed a red line, stressing that the use of drones to strike viral facilities in the country is not a passing incident, but instead an organized and dangerous act that requires firm response.
He stated that the authorities have begun investigations on determining the source of the drones used in the targeting, and revealed those responsible for planning, implementation and participation in the attack, stressing that accountability will be firm and will not protect anyone’s status or influence. He added that he followed up on the developments of the fire that broke out in tank T402 in the Al-Zawiya area, and directed authorities to raise the state of response and deal with the fire and its repercussion, while placing priority on protecting lives and preventing the spread of the fire to other facilities.
It was confirmed that the fire has been completely extinguished, and specialized teams are continuing its cooling. Insurance and technical monitoring are also continuing as a way to ensure the safety and stability of the site.
Dbeibah added that the operations at the Zawiya oil depot have resumed, ensuring that distribution companies will receive supplies according to their fuel needs and that gasoline supplies to gas stations are regular, in addition to the power plant receiving supplies in accordance with its operational needs.
The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity praised the fire and safety teams, engineers, technicians and workers who all took part in controlling the fire, preventing its spread, and protecting the lives and facilities, stressing that the protection of Libyans is not a matter of compromise.
