Ten executed in eastern Libya following military court rulings
In eastern Libya, ten have been convicted and executed for “terrorist crimes” and the assassinations of military personnel and civilians, according to the Libya Gazette on August 31st.
The executions were followed by an August 23rd statement from the Office of the Military Prosecutor General of the Libyan National Army (LNA), led by military commander General Khalifa Haftar. It said the executions followed decisions from the Supreme Military Court, after deliberations spanning several years.
According to the military prosecutor, the charges which formed the final decision included membership of banned terrorist groups and carrying out assassinations that targeted both military personnel and civilians. Human rights organisations have condemned the decision, stating the trials were both unlawful and unconstitutional.
