West African bloc, Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is ready to intervene militarily in Niger should their peaceful attempts to reverse a coup there fail.

ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security Abdel-Fatau Musah accused the junta, that ousted Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum in late July, of “playing cat-and-mouse” with the bloc due to the country’s refusal to meet with envoys to discuss matters regarding the justifications for the military’s hostile takeover, according to Reuters.

Mr. Musah was fierce in his criticism of the junta’s announcement that it had put the now detained President Bazoum on trial for treason.
