Egypt’s President calls for the recognition of a Palestinian state
On November 24, Egypt’s President called on the international community to do more for peace in the Middle East and to recognise a state of Palestine, reports Africa News.Â
The Egyptians were one of the first countries to support the Palestinian Declaration of Independence back in 1988.Â
President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi made the remarks during the visit of the Belgian and Spanish Prime Ministers, Alexander De Croo and Pedro Sanchez respectively, in Cairo.Â
He noted during a joint press conference that, “The results of this faltering path over the last 30 years tell us that we need to adopt a different approach,” .Â
Sissi called for a, “recognition of the State of Palestine by the international community and its integration into the United Nations… This would be a sign of seriousness.” .Â

Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the President of fellow African country, Algeria also stressed the importance of the recognition of Palestine by the UN. Â
During a speech at the world body’s General Assembly in New York in September, the head of state said that Palestine should be granted full membership of the United Nations. Â
The state currently holds the status of a non-observer member state. It applied for full UN membership back in 2011 however it did not amass enough of the required support in the UN’s Security Council. Â
Shining a light on the hateful Zionist ideology, Bezalel Smotrich, the Israeli Finance Minister, claimed in March that there is no such thing as a Palestinian people. Â
Since October 7, 1,400 Israeli have been killed by Hamas and 15,000 have been slaughtered in the besieged Gaza by Israel.Â
