Pro Palestinian demonstrations continue both in Europe and the Arab world placing further pressure on US President Joe Biden to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Demonstrators gathered en masse for a pro-Palestinian rally outside the South African embassy in Tunis on the 11th January, which was followed by one in London on January 13th.

South Africa was praised for challenging Israel’s use of Article 51 to justify the ‘genocide’ of nearly 2 million Palestinians. Article 51 maintains the right of self-defence in the event of an armed attack within the United Nations.

According to africanews.com, the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women was amongst the various NGOs calling to “free Palestine”.

Naila Al-Zouglami, president of ATFD declared that demonstrators “wanted to thank South Africa…for doing what no Arab or Islamic country has done.

“Innocent people are still dying in Palestine today.”

South Africa’s Ambassador in Tunisia hopes that the “hard evidence from the government and military of Israel,” is enough for the International Court of Justice to issue a ceasefire.

Limited food, water, and medicine enter Gaza through an Israeli siege, supplying the remaining 15% of Gaza’s population.
