US Pentagon avoids war with Iran after a militant drone attacked American troops in Jordan, according to Reuters.

Pentagon Defence Secretary, Lloyd Austin, is prepared to take “all necessary actions” to defend US soldiers after a militant drone attacked troops on Sunday 28th January.

The ambush killed three soldiers and wounded over 40 troops. This was the first fatal strike since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023.

Despite Austin’s “outrage and sorrow” towards the lives lost in Sunday’s strike, and the other 160 attacks on US troops since October, President Joe Biden remains hesitant to retaliate.

NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg stated “Iran continues to destabilise the region…backing terrorists who attack our ships in the Red Sea,” however, Biden and experts fear that any retaliation against Iranian forces could ignite a broader war.

The youngest victim of the latest attack was 23-year-old army reserve specialist, Breonna Alexsondria Moffett.

US officials believe that the attack drone managed to escape the attention of 350 US troops by flying under the military base’s radar although most western media reports wrongly place the attack within Jordan’s border, when in fact it was close to a secret US base within Syria.
