Arab Maghreb Union without Morocco?
The envoy of the President of the Libyan Presidential Council sends a written message to the Moroccan king expressing Libya’s commitment to reviving the Arab Maghreb Union, reports the Middle East online plus agencies.
Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita received an envoy of the President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Sami El Menfi on the 23rd of April. The message was intended for the Moroccan King Mohammed VI, confirming that “there is no Arab Maghreb without Morocco and Mauritania.”
Tripoli’s message comes with the intent of reviving the Arab Maghreb Union, as it is the only framework for the Maghreb countries striving towards integration and achieving peoples’ aspirations for stability and prosperity.
This written message came 24 hours after Tunisian president Kais Saied called the consultative Arab Maghreb meeting, attended on April 21st by his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebbourne and the head of the Libyan Presidential Council in the absence of Morocco and Mauritania.

Ambassador Aboubaker Ibrahim Chargé d’Affaires at the Libyan Embassy in Morocco told the press that the Libyan official’s visit to Rabat reaffirms the excellence of the brotherhood relations between Libya and Morocco. He continued by expressing his country’s thanks to Morocco for its continued support under the leadership of the sovereign.
This visit is also part of efforts aimed at strengthening the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) to meet the aspirations of the region’s people for greater stability and prosperity, the Libyan ambassador said, commending Morocco’s active role in promoting Maghreb integration.
