Tunisia’s public prosecutor on September 4th ordered the detention of presidential candidate Ayachi Zammel pending an investigation into suspicions of forging ballot signatures, reported The New Arab and agencies. 

Zammel, 43, is one of only two candidates approved by Tunisia’s electoral authority, ISIE, to run against incumbent President Kais Saied in the upcoming election on October 6th.

He was arrested on September 2nd and is scheduled to appear in court on September 5th.
