West African bloc ECOWAS on September 18 strongly condemned jihadist attacks, which on September 17th hit Bamako, as reported by AFP

An Al-Qaeda-affiliated group claimed responsibility; the attacks targeted critical sites such as a military police training center and the military airport.

Typically, the Malian capital remains unaffected by the frequent attacks that plague other regions of the country.
