UNSC to propose resolution calling for “end of hostilities” in Sudan

With fighting continuing in Sudan, a resolution calling for a ceasefire will soon be table to the UN Security Council, according to Africa News and agencies on November 12th.
UNSC members are negotiating a draft resolution proposed by the UK and Sierra Leone, which the UK circulated to all members on November 8th following initial deliberations with permanent members.
According to Reuters, the draft calls for the Adre border crossing with Chad to remain open for the delivery of aid. A three-month approval given to the UN and aid groups by Sudan’s government to use the crossing is due to expire this month.
The draft resolution “demands that the Rapid Support Forces immediately halt its offensives” throughout the country, “and that the warring parties immediately cease hostilities.”
