Morocco: China’s Xi Jinping meets with crown prince and PM
Chinese President Xi Jinping made a short visit to Morocco on November 21st, meeting with the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch in Casablanca, according to Reuters.
Xi Jinping made the visit following the G20 summit in Brazil.
While China’s state broadcaster said Hassan and Xi had a “cordial conversation”, Morocco’s MAP said the visit reflected the strong bonds of friendship, cooperation, and solidarity between the Moroccan and Chinese peoples.
In recent years, China has boosted its investments in Morocco’s infrastructure and rail sector, and in June Chinese EV battery manufacturer announced the construction of a gigafactory in Morocco, set to be Africa’s first.
Morocco’s proximity to Europe and its free trade agreements with EU and US markets, make it an attractive base for Chinese EV makers.
