Five suspects were arrested on November 27th by Moroccan law enforcement for alleged involvement in an international gold smuggling network, according to MiddleEastOnline and agencies

The arrests came during a security operation in the city of Oujda, where three houses were searched, yielding 33 kilograms in gold bars, and a large trove of cash, consisting of both Moroccan Dirham and Euros, supporting suspicions of smuggling.

Recent searches carried out in connection with this one have led to the seizure of two cars, a motorcycle, bladed weapons and an electronic scale, all of which are thought to have been used by the smugglers.

The accused are aged between 26 and 68, with four being from the same family, and are undergoing further investigation.
