Niger: Ten soldiers killed by motorbike mounted insurgents
Ten soldiers have been killed and seven others injured in a terrorist attack in western Niger on December 11th, according to AfricaNews and Agencies.
The attack occurred in the village of Petel Kole near Niger’s border with Burkina Faso where hundreds of militants on motorbikes targeted a military garrison.
Army sources reported that 26 attackers were killed.
Reports of another assault in Chatoumane were spread on social media but Niger’s junta said the claims were false, calling it propaganda aimed at weakening the morale of their forces.
Since the military junta took control in July of 2023, the country has faced increasing attacks from militant groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda and DAESH, with over 1,500 civilians and soldiers killed this year.
