Morocco has been invited to the next summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a meeting which will bolster the partnership between the two sides, according to Agencies via Asharq Al-Awsat on December 12th.

The invitation was extended during a meeting between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and GCC Secretary-General Jasem Al-Budaiwi in Rabat where they discussed the latest developments on the world stage.

Formally established in 1981, the Gulf Cooperation Council is a partnership between Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

Al-Budaiwi praised Moroccan King Mohammed VI’s strong commitment to cooperation with the Gulf region.

He repeated GCC’s recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the contested Western Sahara region, a key issue for the North African kingdom.
