Leaders head to Egypt for D-8 summit

Leaders of the D-8 organisation for economic cooperation are heading to Egypt for the 11th D-8 summit, according to Reuters.
Prabowo Subianto, president of the group’s most populous country Indonesia, is travelling to the summit on December 17th. Foreign ministry spokesperson Roy Soemirat told reporters that Subianto will accept chairmanship of the body a two years starting January 1st 2026.
The D-8, which includes Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey, was established in 1997 by Turkish PM Necmettin Erbakan as a economic alliance for Muslim countries.
