Morocco cut its interest rates for the second time in 2024, easing the cost of borrowing to encourage an investment drive including preparations to co-host the football world cup in 2030.

Bloomberg reported that Bank al-Maghrib had lowered the benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to 2.5% in its latest quarterly policy meeting on December 17th.

The regulator said in a statement that reduction to the lowest rate since last year is motivated by inflation that is “in line with the price stability objective” and high geopolitical uncertainty.
