Egypt approves council formation aiming to “enhance cooperation” with Saudi Arabia
The Egyptian cabinet has given the green light for the establishment of a council which aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, according to Asharq Al-Awsat and agencies
The decision, which was made the by the Egyptian cabinet on December 18th, follows an earlier news conference. Taking place on September 10th, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty said during conference that the two countries were in the last phase of launching the body, known as the Egyptian-Saudi Higher Coordination Council. The council will be chaired by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

According to an Egyptian government statement, the council aims to “intensify communication and enhance cooperation between Egypt and Saudi Arabia in areas of mutual interest.”
The council will consist of ministers as well as officials from both countries and will arrange meetings, alternately between the two countries.
Deputy chairman of the Arab Affairs Committee in Egypt’s House of Representatives, Ayman Mohseb, said that the council will enable Cairo and Riyadh to work together on regional issues and joint interests between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
