US report criticises Algeria terror designation as ‘political’

The US state department’s annual report on terrorism in Algeria has reiterated its criticism of Algeria’s government for its terror designation of certain groups as “more political than security related.”
It specifically mentioned the Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylie and the Islamist movement Rachad. According to the state department, “neither appears to have committed what the United States defines as terrorist acts.”
The US has made the same pronouncements in previous annual reports about Algeria’s designated of certain groups as terror groups being politically motivated.
