UN security council gives mandate for new mission in Somalia

The UN security council adopted a resolution on December 27th to establish the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia, according to UN Media.

The AUSSOM, which is expected to start on January 1st 2025, will replace the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia, whose mandate ends at the end of 2024.

The resolution was adopted by 14 votes in favour, including that of Algeria, and one abstention, that of the United States.
