The bodies of 27 African migrants have been recovered by Tunisia’s coast guard after two boats they were attempting to cross the Mediterranean in sank, the national guard said on December 2nd according to Reuters.

It added that 87 people who were on the boats, which sunk in waters off the city of Sfax, were rescued by Tunisia’s coast guard.

The country has replaced Libya as the main departure point for Tunisians and Africans generally. Its coast guard recovered the bodies of around 30 migrants in two separate incidents last month after their boat sank while sailing towards Europe
