Mauritania produces its first gas in major milestone
Mauritania has produced its first gas in collaboration with Senegal, in what is a major leap forward for the North African nation.
According to MiddleEastMonitor, Mauritania officially opened its first natural gas well at the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) field on January 2nd, paving the way for a production goal for 2.5 million tonnes of liquified natural gas per year, in its initial phase.
The GTA field is located on the sea border between Mauritania and Senegal, with the project a collaborative effort involving BP, Kosmos Energy, Mauritania’s Societe Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures (SMH), and Senegal’s state-owned Petrosen.
