Third North African summit to be held in Tripoli
Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf has announced preparations for the third trilateral summit involving Algeria, Libya, and Tunisia, set to take place in Tripoli at the start of January 2025.
The beginning of January 2025 is set to mark preparations for the third trilateral summit in Tripoli. This summit will involve Libya, Algeria and Tunisia. According to LibyaObserver on January 2, Foreign minister of Algeria, Ahmed Attaf has stated in a press conference how ongoing efforts are being made to coordinate with Libya and Tunisia to support the success of the summit.
In particular, Attaf emphasized the trilateral mechanism, a proposal from Algeria,this aims to tackle challenges shared by all three nations, already leading to cooperation projects among these three nations.
This initiative was initially launched in February during the first summit in Algiers.The second meeting, hosted in Tunisia in April, saw a dialogue between leaders of Liybia, Algeria and Tunisia.
The main outcomes of the previous summits have resulted in commitments to “reject foreign interference in Libya”, support with elections in aim to stabilize the country, as well as commitments to speed up projects such as electrical grid interconnection, free trade zones, and the faster, more effective movement of people and goods.
The upcoming summit is expected to build upon these efforts, resulting in more regional cooperation, as well as responding to pressing problems that will affect all three nations.
