Turkish defence company Baykartech has recently confirmed their delivery of Bayraktar TB2 drones to Morocco.

According to MoroccoWorldNews on January 5, this delivery has not yet officially been confirmed by Morocco.

The delivery of these drones indicates Morocco will be continuing to enhance its defence systems.

This is not the first shipment of drones that Morocco has received from Baykartech, the previous shipment of drones to Morocco being in September 2021.

The drone delivery comes amid rising tensions surrounding regional disputes over Western Sahara.

Moroccan armed forces are continuing to strengthen their military capabilities, in order to protect the country`s territorial integrity.

To improve their defence capabilities, Morocco has been diversifying its drone armament deals in order to better defend against hostile actions from the Polisario Front, a separatist group backed by Algeria.

The country has been using drones since 2021 to counter The Polisario Front`s movements, as they have trespassed the buffer zone.

As well as this, Morocco has made drone deals with both Israel and China, in 2022, purchasing 150 military drones of the WanderB and ThunderB types, and Wing Loong II models from China.

Morocco holds an important geostrategic role in defending its southern provinces and maintaining regional peace. The country is in the process of transitioning from an arms importer to an arms manufacturer.

In order to reach this aim, Morocco is building their own local defence production through partnering with the leading global defence companies, this includes Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Raytheon.
