Brazil announces that Indonesia will join BRICS as full member
Brazil said on January 6th that Indonesia will formally join BRICS as a full member, further expanding the bloc that also includes Russia, India, China and South Africa among others, according to Reuters.
Indonesia’s foreign ministry said in a statement on January 7th that it welcomed the announcement and that “BRICS membership is a strategic way to increase collaboration and partnership with other developing nations.”
Indonesia, the world’s fourth most populous nation, had previously expressed its ambition to join the group to strengthen emerging countries and further the interests of what is termed as the “global south.”
