China’s top diplomat on African charm offensive

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has begun his traditional New Year tour of Africa, in another push by Beijing to extend their influence in the resource-rich continent.
According to Reuters, the diplomat embarked on January 4th to Namibia, with the Republic of Congo, Chad, and Nigeria to follow.
The Chinese foreign ministry said: “China firmly believes that Africa has never been a forgotten continent, but rather a source of vitality and a land full of development potential.”
