Libya: Islamic extremists destroy 400-year-old mosque
One of Libya oldest mosques was destroyed on January 6th, as the bombing of religious landmarks shakes Libya once again.
According to the LibyaReview, the perpetrators justified their attack of the Atiq Mosque in Shakshouk with claims that it housed a shrine, an accusation firmly denied by local officials and the mosque’s community.
The ruined mosque is one among many Sufi religious sites in recent years that has been targeted by extremists who condemn the Islamic offshoot as heretical, according to HumanRightsWatch.
