A confidential document acquired by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has exposed major cases of money smuggling which has been conducted through Syrian Airlines to Moscow, Asharq Al-Awsat reported on January 8th.

Described as being one of the most corrupt financial transfers coordinated by the the Assad-led regime, the document says that most of the funds come from profits gained from the trade and production of Captagon, an illicit drug.

Rami Abdel Rahman, head of SOHR, told Asharq Al-Awsat that the latest transfer happened just four days before Syrian president Bashar al-Assad went to Moscow in December.
