Gunfire was heard near the presidency in Chadian capital N’Djamena on January 8th, two local residents told Reuters. They added that convoys of military vehicles were seen driving towards the presidential headquarters.

Chadian authorities made no immediate comment. AFP cited a source saying that armed men had attacked the interior of the presidential compound.

“I am stuck at Place de Nation in front of the presidency, because I hear intense gunfire and military vehicles coming from all directions,” said one of the residents, Abbas Mahamout Seid.
